The flight from Kansas City was a short one, leaving MCI and flying over The Kansas Speedway, The Legends, and therefore, mom and dad's house.
We made it to Houston and enjoyed some time in the United Club.
Around nine, we made our way to our gate. We boarded and were ready for take off...
Five hours later, hungry because everything was closed, tired, and maybe a little cranky, we were on our way. The flight was uneventful, thank goodness, and we arrived ready to go!
Mom and dad had some 'Must-Dos' on their lists and we tried our best to provide those opportunities and then some.
Eating outside in the wonderful climate!
Pool time...lots of it!
Parks and nature are a big part of the experience here. We went on many walks and tried to find different animals that roam free here. Monkeys, Capybaras and some other interesting animals popped up! Dad took the boys fishing and helped Zane catch his first fish in Brazil!
Pastels! Empanadas, fried food, whatever you call it, these are a hot item here and a must try.
Brazilian Food - Mom and dad had the option to choose whatever they wanted. We found some amazing places for them to enjoy some different foods!
A weekend trip to Rio De Janeiro allowed them to see some of the traditionally known places in Brazil. This trip also allowed for some amazing memories to be made and pictures to be taken!
We made sure to enjoy the beach as well. The water was surprisingly chilly for this time of the year. It did not stop us from having fun!
This trip to Rio, we tried to explore areas we did not have a chance the first time. We booked a jeep tour of the Tijuca National Park. It was beautiful! Someone may have dropped their sunglasses into the stream and I may have had to go in after them causing the whole tour to be delayed for a little bit.
Another weekend trip to São Roque allowed mom and dad to try some traditional and local Brazilian wine and beer. This place had a Grape Beer and surprisingly, it was not that bad!
Mom wanted to see the crazy malls and the Wal-Mart to compare between the countries. We spent many moments grocery shopping together and talking about the different products and types of stores. By the end, she had a favorite store for groceries!
After a walk around the park, we made sure to introduce them to Brazilian Tapioca. They choose chocolate and strawberry (I think). Their faces show they enjoyment!
Celebrating Alden's Birthday was another highlight of the trip. We rented a house in Sao Roque, went to Ski Mountain park and had a wonderful lunch at a German Restaurant. This seven year old was happy!
A trip to see the buildings that Greg and I work at inspired many questions and opened their eyes to the insane differences between the countries.
Three weeks was NOT enough, but we are grateful for the time we had! While we, and everyone involved, was terrified with dad traveling this long distance, and being away from his doctors, we are so pleased with how everything went. Thank goodness for doctors who prepared mom and dad well. The trip ended as all of our trips home do...with tears.
