We took the boys to Jequitibás Woods Park in Campinas on Saturday.
This large 10 hectares of forested area includes a zoo, museums and theater as well as many picnic areas and walking paths.
These bamboo trees were carved with thousands of names!
These little guys roam around all over. The Agouti are small rodents that have become less shy around people in areas such as this. Zane described them as an animal with a squirrel head and a rat body with no tail.
The trees, including palm, were so tall! We could not get over their massiveness.
The zoo was just an addition to the paths. The cages were green metal bars within reaching distance of all little hands. The animals ranged from felines to birds.
The boys were so excited to see a hippo OUT of the water!
This shows the cages the animals were in. The short green fence you see in the bottom right hand corner is the only thing separating you from jumping into an enclosure or reaching into a cage.
Monkey island
An albino peacock! It was gorgeous.
A cute Tapir family.
Macaws! There were so many, of so many colors. They were very loud!
We treated ourselves to a fudge bar. This was a new experience for both boys. Can you tell if they enjoyed it?
The boys enjoyed running and playing at the park. They keep asking why all the parks here are sand and not mulch or gravel!
Greg just managed to catch this on video. Lots of laughter at this oops moment!
Greg trying to get the perfect shot!
And this beautiful fountain!
The plants are beautiful. You do not feel that you are in the middle of a big city.
This tree is one of the most interesting that we found! The boys had to climb all over it. We explored all over this tree! The root pattern was so intriguing.
Can you find me??? I am standing behind this section of the roots!
Can you find the boys??
Overall, this was an amazing trip and we look forward to visiting again with a picnic next time!
Those roots are awesome! Like a package of roast beef or something
ReplyDeleteAren't they amazing. The boys were so intrigued!
DeleteThat looks like a lot of fun! If you ever get the chance to go to the Lincoln Zoo, the peacocks roam free. All female peacocks at the zoo are white, while the males have color.
ReplyDeleteI did not know this about the Lincoln Zoo! As many times as we have ventured to NE, we have never done the Lincoln zoo, only Omaha!
DeleteThis was male and I had never seen all white feathers like this!
